Hi folks! I'm at it again. I'm going for another 20 pound loss in ten weeks. I've recently had another baby, a little girl, she is now five months old and I'm ready to drop some weight.

today's challenge: getting to the gym to at least do abs and an arm work-out. Staying on-calorie.
Actual fitness: 2 1/2 mile walk/run, chest and triceps work-out with abdominals.

Note on picture: This is actually my black tea pot that I just decided to make into a black and white photo. Some friends visited us a few weeks ago and picked this up for me after they saw me using a sauce pan to make tea. If it wasn't for them, I'd probably still be using it. However, I am very grateful to have such a nice tea pot that whistles at me when it's boiling.

Saw The Doctor:
No Cracked Knees

Hey everyone!

I was getting pretty depressed yesterday afternoon. A big reason being that my knees still hurt and I was imagining the worst....my running career was over...no more weight lifting my legs...I couldn't take it anymore so I just walked (or hobbled :)) to the doctor's office. It's only three blocks away.

After looking at it for a bit, he said he didn't think the knee cap was cracked. I had basically landed right on both knee caps when I fell, but I must have fell harder on my right knee because it hurt worse. So, he had some x-rays taken of my right knee and they came back normal.

Wheeww!! Big sigh of relief. I'm just normal!

He thinks my ligaments are bruised and suggested taking off a week or that when I do start to run to start small and build up higher mileage. He said a good sign that I can start running is that I can walk without pain.
Well, after finding all that out, I felt more optimistic and realized that this is temporary and to not throw in the bag and eat too much and gain weight. I actually kept to around 1,400 calories yesterday and dropped down a pound.
Also found out that they don't recommend using hydrogen peroxide to disinfect wounds. I said, "Really?! We use that all the time on the kids' open wounds."
He said it can actually harm the healing process. That instead just cleaning it out with soap and water and then applying salve works just fine. But he did concede that you could use it once when you first disinfect the wound, but to not use it continually thereafter.
Also asked him about alcohol wipes. Definitely don't want to use that on an open wound either. That's good to know because it hurts like the dickens anyway. (It was just on me, not the kids)
So, my knee is still sore today, but I might try running on it anyway to see if it actually hurts when I run. I do believe I'm not limping as much.
My husband even pointed out to me last night that my limp isn't as "pronounced". Maybe instead of walking like the sheriff with the big bow-legged swagger, I'm walking more like a deputy. Maybe in a few days I'll be walking like the regular folk. Ha, Ha.
So, anyway there is this race that I had wanted to race in on Saturday, before "the fall". It's a rather unique race. It starts at 4:00 p.m. and goes through these trails and then finishes up with a loop in this park that has over a million Christmas lights. Plus it's just snowed like 16 inches here, so there's all this snow to run in. Now, don't worry folks...I've already explained to you that I have Wisconsin running legs...I won't fall in the snow and ice...it's just the dry pavement that I have to be careful of.:)
But think of it, it will be twilight when I finish the race and all these soft glowing Christmas lights will be reflecting off the freshly fallen snow. They also serve hot cocoa after the race. My husband said I should just do it even if I can only walk the 5K. Hey, my sister-in-law will be there too (the pregnant one). Think of the nice pictures I could get.
Then, I was thinking, if I can run without pain today or tomorrow, maybe I should just race it. I mean why not take advantage of this forced one-week taper?
Well, hope your Thursday is going well. Thanks for all your encouragement. I really, really appreciate it.

  1. That's such good news!! I was worried about those knees!

Wouldn't it be funny if you lost more weight not running? I find life like that sometimes!

I think you should do the race, even if you just walk it because you get so much out of the races. I can't imagine being in a place where I am wanting to enter races...maybe someday Sunshine Mama...maybe someday. In the meantime, heal up and take some cool photos for us!!!
