Today's challenge: Keep from snacking, staying hydrated and focused for work-outs.

Planned fitness: 5 mile run, abdominals, 50 minute chest and triceps work-out.

Note on picture: You can barely see my 1/2 cup of fat free cottage cheese, 80 calories, that is buried beneath 3 oz of strawberries, 27 calories, and 1 oz of blueberries. 15 calories. I later put 1 tsp of sugar, 15 calories, on top to combat the tartness and was in heaven. Total calories:137. I'm not sure if I'll ever go back to canned fruit.

A Tough Few Days

I'll have to be honest folks, it's been a tough few days here at the ranch. For some reason, I have been having snacking urges that feel uncontrollable. Last night the kids were eating their ice cream for dessert and I had to walk outside to get away from it. But, then, before leaving to go to the grocery store, I got into and ate the rest of the Blue Bunny Bunny Tracks light ice cream. It was getting close to being gone anyway, but still.

Now that I think of it, my snacking urges seemed to increase with the purchase of that 1/2 gallon of ice cream on Sunday. However, it had not presented a problem a few weeks ago when I had it. So, when we went grocery shopping, I didn't pick up any more of that ice cream. Instead, I picked up Blue Bunny premium light vanilla ice cream which is 50 calories less per 1/2 cup than the Bunny Tracks ice cream. It's 100 calories per 1/2 cup. I seem to have more self-control around that ice cream perhaps because it's not loaded with chocolate, fudge, caramel and peanut butter. Ya think? Also with the vanilla light I can add chocolate syrup if I want.

There could be other possible reasons for wanting to snack. It could be my work-outs are legitimately draining my energy. But I don't thing that's the whole reason. I could be experiencing some hormonal changes that affect my mood and thus affect my appetite.

Now, it's not like I've completely gone off the deep end of snacking. Over the past few days, I've probably went over a total of 500 to 600 calories. That isn't enough to make me gain weight, but for some reason, I'm feeling fat and wondering if I'll lose any weight any time soon. I'm contemplating adding another few more days of abdominal work to tighten my belly even more.

One thing for sure, I'm not drinking enough water and I know that will lead to water retention so I need to make sure I'm drinking more water.

So, there you go. I'm still determined, people, I just need to work through this bump in the road.

  1. Every diet has these bumps. You are smart to not buy that ice cream anymore. Finding an alternative ice cream with less calories is good. I see your running more today, maybe it is playing a role in your appetite or cravings. Let us know how today goes. Good luck. Hang in there.

  3. ahh yes. the ice cream battle. buying plain is "boring" but helps it to last longer (and therefore not snack on it 24/7). very smart to switch it up and go with the 'healthier' option. every healthy-diet journey has these bumps as you know, don't give in to any bad habits, you'll be over the bump soon enough!
