Operation Grapefruit Oatmeal Challenge...Day 2

Good evening everyone!
Welcome to day 2 of my "Operation Grapefruit Oatmeal Challenge".
For those who don't know this is a challenge that I made up myself where I eat grapefruit and/or a bowl of oatmeal if I get a craving or urge to eat a sugary food.
And, you know what?
I did, in fact, pull out a grapefruit and slice it in half to eat today when the urge hit me. And I was able to stop at just the 40 calorie grapefruit half.
40 calories folks!!
How is that compared to dipping into a bag of chips or eating multiple bowls of cereal or chocolate pieces?
I do have to admit something, however. This grapefruit that I love so much is tasting a little sour. But there is an explanation for that.
Yes...grapefruit tends to be a little sour...but usually only for two reasons.
1.) if you buy it off -season, which I believe they are out of season, they will not taste as sweet. But I don't think that is the reason it tastes sour.
....0r it could be that....
2.) Your tongue is coated with the gunk that accumulated there from the consumption of all the sugary, processed foods that were eaten prior to eating grapefruit.
I believe the reason it tastes sour is because my tongue has not shed the icky sugar coating.
Yesterday was the first day off of sugar and white flour, and I was giving the sour look faces with each bite of my grapefruit because my tongue was still coated.
Today...is a little better, but it still tastes a little sour. My salads that are topped with Newman's Own oil and vinegar dressing also do not taste as good as they normally do when my tongue is not coated with cr*p.
So, hopefully in the next few days, all of those wonderful natural food flavors will be making themselves known to me.
Other than that, I made it to the gym and did my leg work-out. I also did four sets of five pull-ups. I was surprised that I could do that many because I haven't done pull-ups in four or so weeks. But, I have been keeping up on my biceps exercises which I think is a big help to doing pull-ups.
I think it would be so great to be doing multiple sets of pull-ups at the gym while nine months pregnant. Wouldn't that be a sight? Plus... what would be cool, is that I would be getting stronger and stronger because I would be slowly pulling up more weight as I gained "baby weight". Ha, Ha! I don't even have to strap on any iron to make it harder. Same with the push-ups.
And yes, I may have my husband snap a picture of that. Have you ever seen a pregnant women doing pull-ups at nine months along? I suppose I'd better make sure it's safe first.
Well, that's about it for now. I stuck to my diet today, and I feel so much better to not be over-eating on bad food. Hope you're all doing well too!
Have a great Wednesday!!
Sincerely,
Sunshine Mama

  3. Morning Sunshine Mama. Good work making it to the gym and working hard. You always make me want grapefruit when I read your blog. The big bags of them are on sale this week, so I will be stocking up. I like the bitter taste of the grapefruit. When you talk about the sugar and white flour it makes me think about what I eat, I mean what I am REALLY eating. Thanks for making me think. I used to not even worry what I ate and thought, "oh as long as I work out, it doesn't matter." Boy was I wrong. I have more energy when I eat right - just like you.

You do realize that when it comes time for Greg and I to expand our tiny family, I am coming to you will all pregnancy related questions. Not that that will be anytime soon = ) We got to keep saving our money first.

Greg is having his arthrogram procedure tomorrow. He is doing better right now. He is able to walk with only a small limp. They fitted him for a special brace that helps him during the day. He is ready to just get things moving and focused on getting it better. The actual meniscus surgery does not take too long to heal from, so that is good. We will know a lot more after tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Thanks for your support. Have a great day.

  4. I used to hate grapefruits when I was younger but I think I should give it a try since I am discovering that I like a lot of the things that I hated when I was a kid.
