Today's challenge: I started out good with not snacking and then after my mid-morning snack everything went down hill. Why the heck am I dipping pretzels in peanut butter? So....I think I'm going to have to put up the peanut butter, pretzels and Snyder Hanover pretzels. Maybe, instead, I should set out some apples on the counter top. Those, at least, would be lower calorie.
Actual fitness: chest and triceps work-out with abdominals. 50 minute, five mile run tonight.
My knee was feeling slightly sore before the run, but not too bad at all on the run. I wonder if that is just some lingering soreness associated with the "contusion". I have another leg work-out tomorrow morning.
Note on picture: Believe it or not, these are not real green beans, but play-do0 made to look like green beans. Our son brought this to me this afternoon saying he had made green beans. I'm not sure what colors he mixed to get this exact green bean color...but I was very impressed.
Maybe this is a sign that I need to start eating more green beans and fewer pretzels dipped in peanut butter. Although, that would probably be a good picture too. Maybe I'll just eat a few more of those for a good picture for you guys tomorrow. Just kidding!!
Planning To Race This Saturday
Remember the infamous race about five weeks ago where I fell two miles into the race, got back up, and then finished first in my age group?
With the resulting contusion to my knee and bruised ligaments, I was unable to run but three miles in the three weeks following that race. It's only been in the last several days that I've been able to log in five or six days of running.
Welllll....the race that is scheduled for this Saturday is at the same course. It is actually part of a three-part winter running series.
So, I do believe that technically I could run in this 5K. So, since I'm already signed up for it, because I signed up in advance several weeks ago...I should run it. I mean, I'm not in pain any longer...and even if I don't run as fast as I'd like, I should probably put in an appearance.
So, right now, the plan is to race on Saturday.
And, quite honestly, it's hard for me, though, to not make some kind of goal for this race despite what's gone on in the past five weeks.
I think an attainable yet challenging goal would be to perhaps maintain the time I got five weeks ago if not a few seconds faster. So, my time was 22:26...so, maybe 22:20.
It's predicted to be quite cold that day. Lately, I've been running in sub-zero to temperatures at 13 degrees tonight...so, I think I'm ready for that aspect of it. Of course the unknown would be the running conditons if perhaps there was a recent snowfall, or slippery roads.
Now... I just have to make sure that when I get to the part in the race where I fell, to lift up my legs a little higher and run a little faster.
Hope everyone's week is going well!!
