Slugging It Out

Hi folks!

Happy Tuesday?

Actually it was very productive for me on the home front, but I really felt like I was slugging it on the gym front tonight. When I went to the gym for my biceps and back work-out, I felt drained of energy and sluggish.

I figured out why. Not enough calories today. So, I took in some more after my evening protein shake and I'm up to 1,740. I will adjust higher if I have to.

But this is good information to know. It appears I need more calories during the week when I'm slugging it out. Ha! And right now I'm being sensitive to how I feel and monitoring my milk supply to make sure Mr. Lovely is getting enough. And at this point he's still getting plenty.

Just want to keep encouraging you all to keep at it. Sunshine, SunshineMeg...good job for getting it done even if you didn't feel like it or maybe weren't looking forward to it.

I would have to say that I think Tuesdays and Wednesdays just may be those uninteresting work-out days. That's why good o'le Mr. Routine and that work-out habit you've created will help push you out the door.

Remember after 21 days, getting to the gym will seem easier to do and require less mental thought.

Good news, however, the scale said I dropped almost two pounds from the day before, so I'm sitting at just over 5 1/2 pounds lost in eight days.

As for Sunshine Meg's question on why running feels harder than working on the elliptical machine?

I actually thing the elliptical can be challenging and is a good replacement for if you can't get in the run. However, I wonder if it may be because the smooth motion of the machine makes it so it's easier on your knees and your joints. It's displacing some of your weight. Plus when you're running, you're pulling in a lot of things that you're not with an elliptical machine. Especially if you run outside. It's a proven fact that getting outside once a day and breathing in all that fresh air is good for lifting your mood. I also know there is balance involved with running...

I guess I don't know all the technical aspects of it...give me some more time and I might come up with a more coherent explanation. Ha!

Now...if you were to ask me how the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley died? I could tell you because we are studying some of his poetry and life right now.

Anyway, oh thank you Dawne and everyone on your kind comments yesterday. I really am looking forward to wearing that outfit.

Well, hope you all have a good Wednesday!

Sincerely,
Sunshine Mama

  1. Thanks for your thoughts on my question and the shout out! Much appreciated. I agree with your thinking about the elliptical machine. I love using it cross train here and there, but still do not feel like I pushed myself as hard. The smooth movements probably have soemthing to do with it all. It's like we are studying the science of excercise!

Use the word "fierce" at your free will! It's a fun word and should certainly be applied to that vintage suit!

  2. Sunshinemeg and Sunshinemama - I have osteo arthritis, so running is often NOT something I should or can do.....too hard on the joints. While I do work up a better sweat running and feel like my lungs and heart are going to jump out of my chest, I don't get quite the same way on the elliptical, but my joints are definitely a LOT happier on the elliptical than running.

You'll see, when you end up old like me! LOL

I'm going to try working out at home after work tonight. The house will be empty for 2+ hours as DSO will be at a b-ball game with his son and my girls are at their dad's....so I'm going to take this opportunity to reorganize my workout area/DVDs, and likely start C25K again!!!!! Stay tuned tomorrow!
