Determination And Black Coffee

Hi folks!

I lost two pounds. yippee.

I thought of this title while working out at the gym tonight. One of the hard parts about going on a sugar free, flour free, processed foods free diet...is that my coffee gets really hard to swallow. Ha, pun intended.

Like if I don't drink it fast enough my mouth starts getting this dry, blech-y feel to it. And, then I want to start making little exceptions to my diet, like...well, I'll only put processed stuff in my coffee to make it drinkable.

But this morning, as I was facing another coffee, I just got this little spurt of ah...how shall I describe it...determination? Like, "hey, I decided to go on this diet, so I need to figure out a way to make this work without adding anything."

So, after thinking about the whole black coffee situation, I realized there was a certain temperature where it tasted better. The cooler it got, the less tasty it got. So, this morning, as soon as I could handle it, I dove right in and sure enough the coffee tasted better.

What's more is, even if it hadn't tasted better, I was determined to not add that processed stuff.

So, at the gym tonight, it occurred to me that succeeding at our goals is determined by our level of determination.

Determination means the mental quality, habit or power of deciding definitely and firmly.

Determination is all about finding a way to make it happen against all odds that it will happen.

You tip the odds in your favor, however, when you follow through with your decisions on the little things like taking your coffee black. When you first start out, little things do mean a lot, and they can set the tone for your journey.

I did want to add that sometimes a "coaxing" approach to dieting has also worked for me, simply because I believe that you don't want to set yourself up for failure by making the standards too high. But, I believe I am at a point where I am ready to attack the weight loss goal with strong determination.

In short, I'm not messing around. ha!

But I'm determined to have fun too, which you'll see as a I go along.

Other than that, you all are too good to me to still be keeping track of me when I've been so bad at blogging lately.

Tonight I ran 2 1/2 miles in 7 degree weather and completed a 45 minute biceps and back work-out. My calories so far today are at 1,720.

Hope your week is going well! You can do it!

Sincerely,
Sunshine Mama

  3. Determination is a great title. You have to want it to make it happen. I remember that teeny weeny show bikini and how bad you wanted it! One step at a time (literally, when running = )You are showing people that just because you have 6 kids and are super busy, it's okay to take time out for yourself. I think that must be easy to forget when you are responsible for so much. You are keeping it real and I love that about you! Keep on keeping on!
